Abstract
679,503. Electric pressure gauge. TATE & LYLE, Ltd. March 9, 1951. [March 9, 1950] No. 5978/50. Class 40 (i). [Also in Group XIX] An electrically responsive diaphragm-type pressure gauge has a substantially rigid member 3 set across the outer face of the diaphragm 2 and means 5 and 8 bearing against the member 3 in a manner permitting little movement of the member 3 from its neutral position corresponding to zero pressure, one of the members 5 comprising an electrically sensitive device adapted to exert a thrust which, in association with the means 8, balances the pressure on the diaphragm 2, the other means 8 being movable along the face of the member 3 to vary the proportion of the total thrust on the diaphragm that must be balanced by the electrically sensitive device 5. The electrically sensitive device 5 may be means linked to a microswitch associated with an electronic relay and an electric balancer in the form of a solenoid whose core is arranged to thrust upon the member 3. Measurement of the current in the solenoid will then give an indication of the pressure exerted on the flexible diaphragm 2. Instead of the electrically sensitive device, pneumatic means (see GroupXIX) may be used.
