Abstract
Dehydrogenation of aliphatic olefines containing 4-6 carbon atoms to diolefines is effected by passing the olefine in admixture with steam over a catalyst comprising calcium nickel phosphate (see Group III) at 550-700 DEG C. Specified dehydrogenations are butylene to butadiene, isoamylene to isoprene and 2 : 3 - dimethylbutylene to 2 : 3 - dimethyl butadiene 1 : 3. Specifications 634,391 and 634,580 are referred to.ALSO:A calcium nickel phosphate catalyst for the dehydrogenation of olefines to diolefines is prepared by passing continuously and simultaneously into a reaction zone a water soluble alkaline substance and an aqueous solution of a calcium salt and a nickel salt, the alkaline substance or the solution also comprising or containing a water-soluble orthophosphate and the calcium and nickel salts being in the relative proportion corresponding to 6.5 to 12 atoms of calcium per atom of nickel, adding the constituents at a rate of flow sufficient to maintain the pH of the mixture at 7.7 to 8.3, agitating the mixture and retaining at least a portion of the precipitated calcium nickel phosphate in the reaction zone while continuing the addition of reactants. The alkaline substance and the salt solution are added to the reaction zone at remotely separated points. Specified alkaline substances are ammonia, dimethylamine, trimethylamine, ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium acetate, or when combined with the orthophosphate, ammonium or alkali metal orthophosphate. Specified calcium and nickel salts are the chlorides, bromides and nitrates. The orthophosphate, when added to the salt solution is orthophosphoric acid. The phosphate slurry is withdrawn, preferably by overflow, from the reaction zone either direct to a filter or, preferably, first to a settling tank. The filter cake is water-washed, dried at, e.g. 100 DEG -370 DEG C, ground, mixed with a lubricant, e.g. graphite or a hydrocarbon oil, pelletted, if desired in admixture with a promoter, e.g. chrome oxide, and finally heated in an oxygen containing gas, e.g. steam and air, at 450 DEG C-750 DEG C. Specifications 634,391 and 634,580 are referred to.
