Abstract

A combined fertilizer and weed-killer, for use as a powder or in aqueous solution, consists of a water soluble salt of a heavy metal in admixture with ammonium chloride with or without other ingredients, the ammonium chloride constituting at least 20 per cent of the preparation. Heavy metal salts are, for example, salts of copper, iron, nickel, cobalt, mercury, and zinc; but complex organic mercury compounds are excluded. These salts may be the usual crystalline salts, or may be in a wholly or partly dehydrated condition. Additional ingredients specified are kieselguhr, active carbon, finely ground brown coal, china clay, burnt gypsum, dried mud, ammonium sulphate, sodium nitrate, calcium carbonate, and vermin-destroying substances. The ingredients may be admixed in the dry form, or aqueous solutions containing the mixed ingredients may be evaporated, or the salts may be prepared in admixture by chemical reaction. Various examples are given in all of which either copper sulphate or ferrous sulphate forms one ingredient. Specifications 8078/00, 12964/88, [both in Class 5], and 403,781 are referred to.
