678,337. Light-sensitive devices; radiation detectors. FASSBENDER, J., MOGLICH, F., ROMPE, R., and DAMZOG, K. Aug. 24, 1950, No. 20964/50. Class 40 (iii). In a cell responsive to light or radiant energy, such as X-rays, alpha-rays or beta-rays and employing a single crystal of a compound of a divalent metal with an element of the oxygen group, the electrical connection between the electrodes fixed to the crystal and the connecting terminals consists of a metal, a metal compound or a metallic alloy. In the construction shown, the crystal 1 is mounted on a disc 4 provided with an aperture 5 and carries electrodes 3 having a gap 2 for the incident radiation. The electrical connectors are constituted by bronze strips 6 secured to the base 4 by screws 7. The crystal is held in position on the base 4 by adjusting screws 9, and the ends of the strips 6 are provided with spherical cups of tin to eliminate or reduce damage to the electrodes. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the electrical connection between the electrodes and the output terminals is effected by a vaporized metallic layer overlying the electrodes and the heads of the terminal pins.
