Abstract

678,037. Leading-in wires for electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 20, 1950 [April 27, 1949; April 27, 1949], No. 6881/50. Class 39(ii) In an electric incandescent lamp arranged to prevent damage to the filament when subjected to jar or shock, the filament is mounted between a pair of leading-in wires each supported at one end from the wall of the bulb and extending inwardly therefrom in the same general direction, each leading- in wire comprising two portions 24, 25 lying in the same common axis, with adjacent ends of the portions spaced apart and interconnected by a coil spring 26 fitting over and gripping them tightly, thereby providing a resilient support for the filament 20 to which additional intermediate support is given by an anchor wire 22 with one end embedded in a glass rod 29 supported transversely between the leading-in wires. As shown, the leading-in wires are supported solely from metal ferrules 10 to which their outer ends are soldered, contact lugs 8 with screw terminals 11 being soldered to the ferrules. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the portion of the coil spring at the gap between the ends of the parts 24, 25 of the leading-in wires is of greater diameter than the portions gripped upon the wires. In a further modification, Fig. 5, each leading-in wire 58 is bent into three parts consisting of outer and inner end parts 67, 68 extending in the same longitudinal direction, and an integral, intermediate, laterally-extending, circularlycurved portion 66 located approximately in a plane transverse to the inleads and imparting flexibility to the filament-supporting end of the mount.
