Abstract

677,612. Control of A.C. motors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 19, 1949. No. 26874/49. Class 38 (iii). An induction motor 1 is braked by connecting its stator winding through switch 3 to a directcurrent exciter 4, the motor rotor winding being connected to a load resistor 2. The ratio between the field current of the exciter 4 and the load current is maintained substantially constant by means of a balancing relay 10 having opposed windings 9, 11. The winding 11 is energized in accordance with the load current by means of current transformer 13 and rectifier 12. The winding 9 is connected across a resistor 8 which is placed, in series with the exciter field winding 7, across the armature of a pilot exciter 5. If the ratio between the load and field currents departs from a given value, the relay 10 is moved to energize a reversible control motor 14 and adjust resistor 15 in the field circuit of the pilot exciter in such manner that the ratio is restored to its pre-determined value. Currents proportional to the load current and to the exciter field current may be combined in opposition and the resultant signal applied to electronic apparatus or a voltage regulator controlling the field current of the exciter or of the pilot exciter. Specification 651,379 is referred to.
