Abstract
677,202. Optical objectives. VOIGTLANDER & SOHN AKT.-GES. Aug. 22, 1950 [Jan. 27, 1950], No. 20758/50. Class 97 (i). A wide-angle modified Gaussian objective comprises a combination of two components on each side of a stop, each combination comprising, from front to rear, a simple uncemented single meniscus lens followed by a compound component of opposite sign, the two single meniscus lenses being of opposite sign, and the compound component of the front combination being meniscus, the arithmetic mean of the refractive indices for the yellow He line of the two single lenses being greater than 1.65 and the last component of the objective having a collective cemented surface convex to the front, the difference in refractive index for He yellow on the two sides of this cemented surface being greater than 0.03. The said cemented surface may have a radius of curvature less than <SP>2</SP>/ 3 the equivalent focal length of the objective and such that the ratios of this radius with those of the outer surfaces of the objective lie between <SP>2</SP>/ 3 and <SP>3</SP>/ 2' Numerical data are given for one example of the lens shown in which the surfaces R4, R<SP>4</SP>1 in the second component are cemented. They may, however, be slightly separated.
