Abstract
677,127. Brakes. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. March 23, 1950 [April 11, 1949], No. 9818/49. Class 103 (i). In order to prevent wheel slip in a vehicle, the braking system includes a valve controlling the supply of fluid to the brake-operating member and which is under the joint control of a ground-load responsive device and a flywheel over-running device, so that the brake effort is limited independently by each of the devices. As shown applied to an aircraft landing wheel the hydraulic brake supply line 18 is connected to the space below a piston 47 of the control valve 34, the piston being subjected to the action of a spring 46 and plunger 45, the latter being connected to a balance lever 44, the ends of which carry plungers 42, 43 moving in compartments 40, 41 connected to the loadresponsive member and the flywheel-operated device by pipes 39, 33 respectively. The loadresponsive device consists of a plunger 36 at the lower end of the shock-absorber unit, while the flywheel device consists of a wheel 21 which normally rotates synchronously with the landing wheel 37, a cam track 28 being pressed against a roller 29 by an axial spring 27. In the event of over-running of the flywheel the cam 28 causes axial movement of a rod 30, the end of which is attached to a piston 32 moving in a cylinder 31 connected to the pipe 33.
