Abstract
712,903. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. April 10, 1951 [May 4, 1950], No. 8333/51. Class 1.08(3) [Also in Group XXXIII] In shock-absorbing means for an aircraft (see Group XXXIII), or vehicle, having a brake actuating system comprising two telescoping members 26, 28 forming two chambers connected by a metering orifice 52, the cross-sectional area of which is adapted to vary during relative movement of the members 26, 28, a member 74 is provided which is operable in response to a brake actuating pressure to vary the crosssectional area of a second orifice 66 through which is forced fluid coming from the first orifice. In operation, on compression, liquid is metered through orifice 52 by a rod 54 and is forced via passages 58, 60, 64 through the metering orifice 66, to act on a piston 70 in a chamber 46. The piston 70 may be loaded by air pressure or by a coiled spring. When the aircraft brakes are applied, brake-actuating, pressure-fluid acts (via a pipe 38) on a piston 76 and displaces it together with the member 74 against the action of a spring 80 to throttle the flow through the passage 60. The invention may be applied to the aircraft landing gear described in Specification 712,181.
