Class 139 A watch cleaning apparatus comprises a foraminous container arranged for rotary movement in a cleaning fluid and have a plurality of movable elements mounted thereon arranged to deflect the cleaning fluid axially through the container, the movable elements consisting of pivoted vanes which are moved to an inclined position, one way or the other according to the direction of rotation, by the drag of the cleaning fluid. As shown, the spindle 14, 17 is rotatably mounted in the lid 11 and can be oscillated by depressing the handle 56 which carries a nut 59 engaging a helix 53 fast with the spindle. Secured to the lower end of the spindle is a three-armed spring clip 44 and an annular member 18 connected to the spindle by three spokes. The foraminous container 22 comprises a lower chamber 36, a detachable gauze tray and gauze lid, the three parts being held together by spring clip 44 and secured in position by a pair of spring catches 23 which engage slots in the annular member 28. The movable elements consist of three vanes 34, radially disposed and hung from their top edges by projections 35 which enter a radial hole 33 in the spindle 17 and an upturned ear 32 on the annular member 18. Movement of the vanes in either direction is limited by abutments on the annular member 18. When the assembly is rotated the vanes swing until they meet the abutments and in such inclined position they deflect the cleaning fluid axially downwards into the container 22. The ball bearing 15 which mounts the spindle is protected from the cleaning fluid by a rubber or plastic sealing washer 62, and is surmounted by a rubber buffer 67 to cushion the downward strokes of the handle.
