676,364. Railway vehicle suspensions. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. April 22, 1949 [March 21, 1949], No. 10706/49. Class 103(vi) A transversely movable supporting and suspending structure on the axle boxes of railway vehicles is of the type in which the vehicle frame 7 is suspended from axle boxes 2 through a hanger or hangers 11 adapted to rock or swing tranversely of the vehicle. The axle bearing, Fig. 1-3, comprises a self-aligning roller bearing 1, and an axle box 2 with a cover 3 and sealing ring 4. A veritcal guide stud 8 is fixed to the frame 7 on each side of the axle box, and spring pockets 9 are adapted to receive supporting springs 10. The frame load is transmitted from the spring pockets 9, which bear on knife edges 13 of the beam-portions 11a of the hangers 11, through prop portions 11b, pins 15 and saddle pins 21, to knife edges 14 and the axle box 2. On relative lateral movement taking place between the frame 7 and the axle 5 the props 11b swing laterally on the knife edges 14 so that the movement is not transmitted. Slippers or sliding shoes 20 provided with guideways 22 may be arranged on each side of the axle box for the purpose of transmitting traction and braking forces, but transmitting elements such as guiding links may also be provided. A modification is described, Figs. 4, 5, (not shown), whereby leaf springs may be used instead of helical springs. The two hangers 11 may be slightly inclined relative to each other instead of being parallel as shown. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91, comprises also a modification, wherein only a single hanger may be used when the axle is mounted in sliding friction bearings or two adjacent anti-- friction bearings. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
