676,176. Hand-stamps; inking apparatus. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Oct. 9, 1950 [Oct. 11, 1949], No. 24598/50. Classes 100 (ii) and 100 (iv). An adjustable printing device for use, for example, in hand-stamps, includes one or more adjustable porous rubber endless bands extending over cross members of a frame and having printing characters thereon, which may be selectively brought into printing position by turning the bands, a font in the frame for printing fluid, such as ink, and one or more capillary wicks for feeding the printing fluid to the bands. Four endless bands 30-33, Figs. 6 and 7, made of microporous rubbery material, with a reinforcing inner layer 35 of cloth, carry raised type characters 34, and run over flanged wheels 29 on a top cross member 25, and through grooves in a bottom cross member 36. The member 36 forms the bottom of a font 44 containing ink and a wick 43 having four branches, each received in a hole in the member 36, to transfer ink to the bands. The font has a screw plug 49 removable for filling. The font may be partitioned to contain more than one coloured fluid, and a separate wick provided for each section, so that various bands print in different colours.
