Abstract

9894. Hoyle, R. C. July 7. Hand-stamps; polychromatic and like selfcontained colour and absorbent surfaces; inking-apparatus.-A selfinking hand-stamp comprises a die of boxwood or other porous non- flexible material fitted into a holder and hollowed out behind the die face to receive a felt or other absorbent pad saturated with ink, which passes to the face of the die by absorption. In the pencil-like form shown in Fig. 1, the boxwood or other porous non-flexible die 3 formed with a single character 4 is mounted in a fitting 2 screwed into a tubular holder 1 provided with a screwed cap 7. The die is hollowed to receive an ink-pad 5 carried by a wire 6 attached to the cap 7. A cover 9 on the cap 7 may be placed over the fitting 2 when the stamp is not in use. The cup 7 and cover 9 are provided with vent holes as shown. A stud 11 is provided to indicate the correct position of the stamp. The holder 1 may be provider with a die at each end inked by differently coloured ink-pads. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the die 3, provided with several symbols 4, is mounted in a fitting 2 screwed on to a holder 1 provided with a handle 12.
