Abstract

675,985. Reservoir pens. CERNY, J. Oct. 12, 1949 [Jan. 25, 1949], No. 26184/49. Class 146 (iii). A reservoir pen for writing with either of two different inks comprises a barrel 1 formed with two reservoirs 1a, 1b and open at the writing end through which projects a feeding head 6 integral with the barrel, the feeding head having separate channels 3a, 3b corresponding to the reservoirs and each terminating in an outlet 4a, 4b respectively; a removable barrel head 11 having a central bore 7 through which the feeding head 6 passes, is inserted at the open barrelend and carries two nibs 2a, 2b pointing in opposite directions and two cover-plates 5a, 5b. As shown, the cover-plate 5a closes the outlet 4a from the reservoir 1a, but ink can pass from the reservoir 1b to the nib 2b through the passages 3b, 4b. When the head 11 is removed from the barrel, turned end-for-end, and re-inserted, the cover-plate 5b closes the outlet 4b, and ink can flow to the nib 2a, now exposed, through passages 3a, 4a. The head 11 is located in correct position in the barrel end by the engagement of one of two studs 13a, 13b thereon with a groove 12 in the barrel. The head 11 may be coloured to indicate the colour of the ink in use. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the nib 2a is mounted on the head 11 in the position occupied by the plate 5b, Fig. 1, and a single cover plate is fixed to the outer barrel. The reservoirs and feeding head are formed as a unit rotatable within the barrel. The head 11 is reversed as before when a different ink is to be employed. In another construction, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), a single nib 2 and a cover plate 5 are fixed to a barrel 1. Rotatably mounted in the barrel is a unit 10 comprising a number of reservoirs 1<SP>1</SP>, 1" attached to a feeding head 4 having a feed channel 3 and outlet 3<SP>1</SP> for each reservoir. By relative rotation of the parts 1, 10, the outlet 3<SP>1</SP> corresponding to the required ink can be brought adjacent to the nib, the remaining outlets being covered by the plate 5. One of a series of spring catches 8 snaps into an opening 9 in the barrel as each opening 3' comes into operative position, the.visible part of the catch being coloured corresponding to the ink in the corresponding reservoir. In a modification, the head 4 and reservoirs are fixed to the barrel, and the nib and cover plate are attached to a part rotatable on the end of the barrel. Arrangements as described may be provided at both ends of the barrel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
