675,822. Bulldozers. GITTINS, R. C., GITTINS, G. A., GITTINS, H., and GITTINS, P. Jan. 25, 1951. [Sept. 1, 1950] No. 21567/50. Class 68 (i). [Also in Group I] A turf cutter comprises an angularly adjustable cutting blade 10, and a gauge plate 2a or the like set parallel to and forward of the blade for regulating the thickness of the turves to be cut. The blade and gauge have means for attaching them to a vehicle, and they are attached to the side arms 3 of a bulldozer by arms 8 and 9 which each have a series of holes for selective attachment by bolts 7, 7a, to brackets 5 fitted to the arms 3. The arms 8 are connected by bolts 12 to bars 11 which are secured to the side edges of the blade 10; and the arms 8, 9 are connected at 12a to the other ends of the bars 11 as shown. The arms 9 are held rigidly in position by bolts 7b and by bearing against the blade edge 2a of the bulldozer blade 2, the edge 2a serving also as a gauge plate. The side edges of the turf are cut by the lower ends 9b of the arms 9, and the turf may be divided into strips by knives 14 supported by a bar 13 extending between the arms 8. In use, the bulldozer moves rearwardly, that is to the left as viewed in the drawings.
