Abstract

675,426. Retractive switches. EASTERN INDUSTRIES, Inc. June 15, 1950. No. 14916/50. Class 38 (v). [Also in Groups XIX and XXXVIII] A switch treadle, associated with apparatus for counting road traffic (see Group XIX), is divided into sections, e.g. 1TS-4TS, across the roadway in order to distinguish between single and dual wheels. Each section comprises a cover 18 for a compartment of a casing 12 set in the roadway. Micro-switches 35, 40 and 41 mounted on the underside of the cover are adapted to be actuated by bars 27, 28 and 29 set in resilient material 17 overlying the cover, the switches being operated in sequence as a vehicle wheel passes over the treadle section. Connections to the switches are made through a plug-in coupling 58 with a cable 59 whereby the unit comprising the cover and switches can be removed for servicing. The cable 59 enters a conduit 62 extending across all the compartments of the casing. Gaskets 16 seal the covers to the casing and a channel 64 carries off seepage. In a modified construction, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the bars 27, 28 and 29 themselves act as switch contacts by engagement with the metal cover 18.
