Abstract
Ammonia-sulphur trioxide addition compounds, such as triammonium nitrilosulphonate, diammonium imidosulphonate, triammonium imidosulphonate and ammonium sulphonate are prepared by impinging a gasous stream containing ammonia against a gaseous stream containing sulphur trioxode along the same axis. One or both streams may contain inert diluents, e.g. air or nitrogen, and the dilute sulphur trioxide may be sulphur trioxide converter gas. The NH3:SO3 mole ratio should be 1.5:1 to obtain triammonium nitrilosulphonate and at least 2.64:1 to obtain diammonium imidosulphonte. An apparatus is described.
