Abstract

<PICT:0673403/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0673403/IV (c)/2> <PICT:0673403/IV (c)/3> An apparatus for treating string textile material and which incorporates a mechanism to stop the travel of the material at predetermined locations comprises a tank 10 for containing fluid, two pulleys 12 and 13 over which the material passes, a rockable rakebeam 23 pivotally mounted at 24 and 25 having sticks 27, 28, 29 and 30, spaced from one another and normally defining open areas allowing the passage of the endless string of material. The open areas available for the passage of the material are capable of being restricted by the movement of the bar 32, shown in its closed position in Fig. 3. A bob 43 is attached to one of the strings, preferably pear-shaped and of such size as normally to pass through the open areas when bar 32 is in open position but not when bar is in closed position. When the bob 43, or an entanglement of the string comes into contact with the sticks attached to the rakebeam, the latter is rocked on its pivots 24 and 25 operating a mercury switch 31 cutting off the motor which rotates rollers 12 and 13. Means are also provided consisting of a weight 39 attached to cord 36 and which normally rests on shelf 40 as in Fig. 1 for rocking the rakebeam and so stopping the mechanism when allowed to hang in the position shown in Fig. 3. In addition to the means shown for reducing the area available to each string shown in Fig. 4, the Specification also described two closely analogous methods for effecting such reduction.
