Abstract

672,718. Suction end-catchers and cleaners for textile spinning machines. BECHTLER, H. C. June 28, 1949.[June 28, 1948], No. 17095/49. Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii) Broken ends of yarn, dust and fluff are removed from a spinning machine by pneumatic suction nozzles traversed in association with the roving traverse motion by means of' an additional member extending longitudinally of the machine. In one embodiment, a cross-member 12 carrying roving guides 9 is reciprocated by an eccentric 14 and a suction duct 18, flexibly connected through a separator 19 to a fan 20 and carrying nozzles 17, is reciprocated by another eccentric 23, having a radial slot for adjustment of the pivot pin by which the duct 18 is coupled to the eccentric, so that the length of the traverse, which is usually shorter than that of the roving guides, may be varied. Since the traverse of the yarn leaving the drawing rollers often lags behind that of the rovings as they enter the rollers. the eccentric 23 may be arranged out of phase with the eccentric 14. Alternatively, eccentrics 14, 23 may be dispensed with and cam discs with correlated contours substituted. Although the drive to the reciprocating members is preferably from a common shaft, the eccentrics 14, 23, or cam discs may be driven by separate electric motors. In modifications wherein the duct 18 is stationary and the nozzles 17 are flexibly connected to the duct and mounted for reciprocation, a rotary shaft may have transmission ' elements imparting the reciprocatory movement to groups of nozzles, or the nozzles may be attached to reciprocatory cables. If desired, the nozzles and ducts may both be reciprocated and at different speeds. In order to render the bottom front drawing rollers more accessible, the suction nozzles may be mounted to be displaceable from operative position. In one form of nozzle mounting, nozzles 17 may be arranged in groups on funnels 28, Fig. 2, connected by flexible conduits to a stationary collecting duct 26. All the funnels 28 in a spinning machine are secured to the reciprocating crossmember 21. The funnels 28 may be rotated to adjust the distance of the nozzles 17 from rollers 3. In another embodiment, nozzle pipes are flexibly connected to the duct 26 and may be held in operative position by a spring catch. Specification 645,432 is referred to.
