Abstract
672,166. High-frequency electric transmission lines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. July 21, 1950 [Aug. 30, 1949], No. 18280/50. Class 40 (viii). [Also in Group XL (c)] In an arrangement for coupling a load to a high-frequency generator, especially for use with high Q dielectric heating loads, a transmission line 10 having an inner conductor 11 and outer conductor 12 is short-circuited at 13, and the portion A which is approximately oneeighth wavelength long is tuned by capacitor 14 to form the resonant tank circuit of the oscillator 15. The section B may be between oneeighth and one-quarter wavelength long and has an inner conductor 18 which is connected to the conductor 11 at a point giving a satisfactory transfer of energy to the load 26. The impedance of section B may be such that the load 26 can be directly connected. By using the tank circuit having a high Q factor coupled to a highly reactive load in this way, pulling of the oscillator frequency by variation of the load is avoided.
