Abstract

672,004. image converter tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 22, 1950 [Nov. 25, 1949], No. 28548/50. Class 39(i). In an electron-optical image converter tube the support of the photo-electrically active layer of the cathode also supports a layer adapted to be projected electron-optically on to the projection screen as a reference mark. As shown, the glass portion 2 is coated intern. ally with a thin but opaque aluminium layer 4, a window being formed by placing a mask on the inner wall 2 during the application of the layer. The mask has an aperture consisting of four slits forming a small cross, the point of intersection of which is in the axis of the tube, thus providing a cross 14 on the wall of the tube. A second very thin transparent layer 7 of silver activated by means of oxygen and caesium vapour extends over the layer 4 and forms a photo-electric cathode. The re-entrant portion of the tube carries a fluorescent screen 9 and an anode 10, the cathode-rays passing through an aperture 12 and being focused to produce an image on the screen 9.
