Abstract
671,725. Couplings. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 9, 1950 [Feb. 28, 1949], No. 3359/50. Class 38 (i). [Also in Group XI]. In an electric heating panel comprising a grid of resistance wire 23, sealed .between sheets 32 of insulating material bonded together by plastic and having outer metal layers 33, one metal layer is cut away at one. end 43 and a small sheet 44 of insulating material is inserted. L-shaped metal strips 41 attached to the ends of the resistance wire 23 are inserted up through slots 45 and bent down into adjacent slots 46, leaving flat contact surfaces 50 at the level of the outer surface of the panel. In metal channels 53 attached to the.panel 4 by earthing screws are insulated supply wires 73 projecting into parallel insulating channels 60 of a terminal box 55 screwed at 56 to the insulated part 44 of the panel 4. Each channel 60 has a metal pin with a flat surface 79 bearing on a flat panel contact 50. The flat surface 79 is connected by a metal strip 80 to a spike 81 which pierces the insulation of the supply wire and contacts the wire to complete the circuit when the terminal box is screwed on to the panel. The strips 80 may be of metal which readily melts to form a fuse.
