Apparatus for feeding lasts into fibre-soled shoes to facilitate sewing, comprises a pair of inclined rails located above a train of moving shoes, lasts having projections for engaging the Tails, means at the lower end of the rails to introduce the lasts into the shoes, and means for removing the lasts from the shoes and carrying the lasts to the upper part of the rails. The lasts 5 are removed from the shoes by rotating arms 21 which engage the projections 6 to carry the lasts to the upper end of the rails 1. Lasts sliding from the upper part of the rails are checked by a stop 10 on a lever 7. The lever is connected by a rod 18 to a cranked lever 16a, 16 in turn connected by a rod 15 to a cranked lever 13, 14. The lever 16, 16a is fixed to a member 9 pivoted at 24 and having release members 19. A last carried by a shoe in the train 2 engages the arm 13 to release the last checked by the stop, and to lower the end of the member 9 placing an intermediate last in the path of the next shoe. Movement of the shoe releases the intermediate last from the member 9, and springs urge the members 7, 9, 19, 13 back to the position shown in the figure so that a last is checked by the stop, an intermediate last is held in the member 9 by the release members, and the last just released is underneath the arm 13. The lasts are pressed whilst the shoes are sewn at a position under the middle of the rails.
