670,735. Vehicle bodies. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., STANFIELD, J. R., GARRETT, T. K., and DUNCAN, I. G. July 11, 1950 [June 27, 1949], No. 16931/49. Class 108(i) A motor road vehicle is described wherein the engine and front wheel suspension loads instead of being taken by the front portions of a separate chassis are taken by flitches 8, Fig. 1, and by a bulkhead 27 and longitudinal torsion boxes 28, which stiffen the flitches and take components of the loads. The subject-matter of this Specification is included substantially in Specification 670,734, which is referred to, but the claims differ. Additional subjectmatter describes the torsion boxes 28 as being rectangular in cross-section, the section decreasing progressively in depth from the rear end which is welded to the dash structure. Each box has its outer side wall constituted by or directly secured to the flitch plate 8 at that side, whilst the bottom wall of each box is extended rearwardly and is welded to the front floor 6 or the front seat brace 1.
