Abstract
670,510. Radio receiving circuits. SHARDLOW ELECTRIC WIRES, Ltd., and MOULTON, E. W. June 30, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10732/49. Class 40 (v). In an arrangement for interference suppression in high-frequency radio receiving apparatus utilizing two aerials, one a vertical aerial for operating at a specified frequency or band of frequencies and the other a horizontal aerial for operating at a specified frequency or band of frequencies, each aerial is connected by a low impedance or balanced feeder cable from a voltage node to a balanced transformer system so that the unwanted signal received by both aerials is anti-phased in the said system, the output from which is fed to the normal receiver input. As shown, a conventional television dipole aerial A1 is connected through a transformer L1 to the control grid of a valve V1, and a similar aerial A2, but arranged so that it picks up only unwanted radiations, is connected through transformer L2 to valve V2. The anodes of valves V1, V2 are respectively connected to each end of the primary T.P. of a transformer, H.T.+ being connected to the centre tap of the winding, and the output from the secondary winding T.S. is connected to the normal input of the receiving apparatus. A potentiometer P provides an adjustment of the relative amplification of valves V1, V2, and differential condensers IC and OC compensate for variations of self-capacitance in the input and output circuits respectively.
