Abstract

Solutions of compounds having the formula (MeS)x (As2S3) y where Me may be calcium, strontium, barium or magnesium and x and y are small positive integers are obtained by dissolving freshly precipitated arsenic trisulphide in a solution of the metal sulphide or hydrosulphide. Colloidal solutions of compounds having the general formul (MeO)x (As2S3)y or (MeS)x (As2O3)y may be obtained by dissolving arsenic trioxide in solutions of the metal sulphides or hydrosulphides while introducing hydrogen sulphide into the product, or conversely introducing arsenic trisulphide or arsenic trioxide into solutions of alkaline earth metal hydroxides while introducing hydrogen sulphide into the product. The colloidal solutions as above obtained may be used for impregnating wood to preserve it against bacteria or fungi.
