Abstract
670,364. Rotor blades. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and FORSYTH, A. G. Aug. 18, 1950 [Aug. 23, 1949], No. 21900/49. Class 4. A rotor blade comprises a number of separate aerofoils 11a, 11b-11g mounted end-to-end on a main spar 10 and connected by resilient sleeves 16, the ends of the aerofoils being curved to allow blade flexing on the horizontal and vertical planes. The sleeves 16 surround the spar 10 and have buffer portions 16a engaging the parts of the ends of the aerofoils which are closest together. The aerofoils have sheet metal skins, and in the form shown the inboard aerofoil 11a is approximately one-third the length of the spar 10, the next three aerofoils 11b, 11c, 11d are each half the length of the aerofoil 11a, while the three outermost ones 11e, 11f, 11g are each one-quarter the length of the aerofoil 11a.
