Abstract
669,639. Kinematograph apparatus. COUTANT, A. C., and MATHOT, J. July 26, 1948, No. 19904/48. Class 97 (i). In an intermittent feed mechanism having at least one reciprocating pawl, spring urged to engage the film perforations and trail over the film on the return stroke, the return stroke is prolonged until the pawl almost, but not quite, reaches the perforation beyond that which,it is intended to engage on the next feed stroke. In one form, for substandard film with one perforation per frame, the claw is carried on a carriage reciprocated parallel to the film through an amplitude nearly twice the frame height. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the film passes round the drum 13 containing the pawl 2 urged outwards by the spring 5. For film with four perforations per frame the pawl amplitude is increased to nearly a quarter greater than the frame height (arc ef as compared with arc cd). A pin 11 on a uniformly rotating disc engages a slot in a lever 9 pivoted at 10, in which slot is also engaged the pin 12 on the drum 13. The feed stroke of the pawl thus corresponds to the rotation of the pin through the arc hij, less than half its rotation.
