Abstract
669,632. Discharge apparatus. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Dec. 31, 1947 [April 3, 1939], No. 35352/47. Class 39 (i). [Also in Group XL (b)] An apparatus responsive to radiations emitted from a radioactive source comprises a photosensitive counter tube I of the kind described in Specification 591,433, a relay 12 operable when the mean current through the tube rises to a predetermined value due to the increase in the rate of counter impulses, and an indicating device operated by the relay so as to indicate the presence of a radio active source. The apparatus may be used for prospecting for radioactive materials or for recovering lost radium needles in hospitals. A pentode 16 is used to amplify the counter impulses before application to the relay. The relay may be a thyratron. An ammeter 9 indicates the mean amplified current.
