Abstract
668,950. Coaxial cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1950, No. 4414/50. Class 36. A coaxial conductor cable in which the outer conductor is made by folding a metal tape longitudinally into a tube with the edges of the tape abutting to form a seam, is made in such a manner that the seam lies on that diameter of the tube which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the take-up capstan or drum. A metal tape 3, which is formed with crimped edges, as described in Specification 650,442, is drawn over a guide roller 7, then twisted so that its plane is turned through 90 degrees and fed into a die 8 together with a conductor 1 having insulating discs 2 thereon. The tape is folded about the core 1, 2, to form a tubular outer conductor 9 having a seam 10, and a lapping of screening tapes (not shown) is applied. The cable is wound on a take-up drum 11 rotated about an axis 12 which is perpendicular to the plane of the tape passing into the die 8.
