Abstract

668,003. Discharge of air conveyers. HURON PORTLAND CEMENT CO. March 20. 1950. [April 5, 1949] No. 6873/50. Class 78 (i). A material discharge device for an air conveyer comprises a porous inclined support 3, a gas chamber 21 beneath the support, sidewalls for confining the material, an opening 10 in one said sidewall, and a blade 12 arranged to divert material through said opening. Fig. 1. Powdered material flows along porous support 3 which is inclined at an angle greater than the angle of repose of the material and is diverted into side duct 11 bv blade 12 which is pivoted on spindle 13 and is operated by compressed air cylinder 21 through piston 20 and crank arm 19. Air from conduit 1 passes up through the support 3 and aerates the material. Blade 12 is reinforced by longitudinal supports and is bent at the end and has a rubber lower edge 18. Said blade 12 may be made smaller in length than the width between the sidewalls 9 so that only part of the material flow is discharged. Felt seal 14 prevents egress of discharged material. The porous support 3 may be made of porous filler stone or woven fabric (e.g., of cotton or glass fibre).
