Abstract
667,658. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 26, 1950, No. 10274/50. Class 40 (vii). Relates to an aerial system for use at the terminal or repeater stations of a two-way radio link comprising two adjacent similarly directed aerials 1 and 4 coupled respectively to a transmitter 8 and receiver 12, in which the aerials comprise paraboloidal reflectors 2 and 5, associated with horns 3 and 6, the apertures of the reflectors and horns being substantially coplanar. According to the present invention, direct coupling between the radiator elements is reduced by a rectangular metallic screen 13 positioned in a plane perpendicularly mid-way between the aerials. One dimension of the screen extends a distance l of the order of several wavelengths in front of the aperture plane and extends in the reverse direction a distance of at least #/2 and the other dimension y extends equally on either side of a line joining the horns by an amount r equal to the radius of the reflector apertures u y=2r; suitable dimensions are given for operation at a wavelength of 6.3 cms. Alternatively the screen may be dimensioned so that coupling due to energy leakage over the edges parallel to the aerial directivity is neutralized by coupling due to energy leakage over the edge parallel to and in front of the aperture plane, the dimensions l and y being 6-10# and 3-5# respectively.
