Abstract
666,436. Valve amplifying circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 15, 1949 [June 19, 1948], No. 15957/49. Class 40 (vi). In a high-frequency amplifier in which the input and output electrodes of a valve have inherent capacity coupling to a third common electrode possessing inherent inductance, the resulting coupling between the first two electrodes is neutralized over a range of frequencies by means of a two-terminal network comprising reactive elements, connected between them. As applied to a grounded-grid amplifier, Fig. 7, unwanted coupling between anode and cathode over the anode-grid and grid-cathode capacities C1, C2 respectively and due to the inherent inductance L1 of the grid lead is neutralized by means of inductance L2 and condenser C4 connected in series between the electrodes concerned. The arrangement may be used in a similar manner to neutralize the effect of screen lead inductance in a screen-grid amplifier of conventional grounded-cathode type, Fig. 8 (not shown). In a push-pull amplifier using screen-grid valves, Fig. 9, each valve is separately neutralized by means of an inductance L2 in conjunction with a pair of condensers 95; as shown, the valves have duplicated screen leads respectively decoupled to either end of the filament.
