Abstract

665,866. Ventilators. INTERNATIONAL ANEMOSTAT HOLDING CO., Ltd. March 31, 1949 [March 31, 1948], No. 8825/49. Class 137 A ventilator comprises an outer conduit, a flared element within it with a mounting permitting axial adjustment, and a detachable connection between mounting and conduit accessible from the larger end of the flared element. A ventilator outlet A comprises an outer conduit 10 and one or more inner flaring members, three 11, 12, 13, as shown, providing air passages a, b, c. The ends 14, 17, of conduits 10, 11 are so shaped that air is caused to flow radially outwardly across the end 14 in a forward position of member 11 and to be deflected forwardly by it when the member is axially retracted. A unit c comprising members 11, 12, 13, and adjusting means is detachably mounted in member 10 by the engagement of tongues 33 at the end of spider arms 23 within pockets 34 in member 10 and retained therein by a free end 36 of a leaf spring 37 which passes through a slit in member 10 and is retractable to release the tongue by pressure on a pushbutton 38. The unit C includes a tubular shaft 18 to which the inner ends of the spider arms are clamped and to the threaded upper portion of which a nut 28 is secured having lugs 29 engaging in slots at the inner ends of levers 25 similarly pivoted at their outer ends to arms 27 carrying the flaring member 11. The spider arms which are V-shaped in section and accommodate levers 25 secured to them by their pivots 26, also carry flaring member 12 by arms 31, and member 13 is clamped between sleeves on shaft 18. Rotation of the shaft by an end knob 30 effects a vertical movement of nut 28 and of member 11 through the levers 25. A damper B mounted behind the outlet A in air duct 16 comprises a rectangular frame 41 hinged at 42 to a housing 40 and including L-shaped vanes 43 pivoted intermediate their side edges to the frame and at their forward ends to a bar 48 which is hinged at pivot 49 to the housing. In the closed position of the damper with the frame within the housing the rear ends 45 of the vanes lie in a common plane; as the frame is swung rearwardly the vanes: separate and facing counter to the direction of the air flow through the duct deflect air uniformly into the ventilator. The damper is operated by a rod 49 having threaded connection with a tube 50 rotatable within shaft 18 as by means of a screwdriver. In a modification provision is made for longitudinal movement of the shaft by expansion of a pressure-operated fluid bellows at its lower end against a spring at its upper end compressed between a nut and the upper of two collars between which the spider arms are confined. Admission of pressure fluid to the bellows may be thermostatically controlled in which case rotation of the shaft as in the first embodiment may be confined to an initial adjustment of the flaring member. In another construction arms rigidly connected to the flaring member replace the pivoted levers 25.
