665,733. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. NICHOLLS, K. H. July 14, 1948 [Nov. 26, 1941], No. 15210/41. Class 135. In a fluid-pressure servomotor, axial movement of a spindle, carrying a ball head b and a valve c, produces rotation of a hollow spindle k relative to the body m of the motor. The ball head b may bear on a camoid, Fig. 1 (not shown) and its movement against the adjustable pressure of a spring h causes admission of hydraulic fluid from inlet grooves p<SP>3</SP> through groove e or l and duct e<SP>1</SP> or l<SP>1</SP> to act on radial piston k<SP>1</SP> mounted on the hollow spindle k. As k rotates, splines f on a valve-seat or liner d cause the latter to rotate and a threaded portion of the liner moving in a part m<SP>2</SP> of the body causes the liner to follow the movement of the valve c and to lap the ports in the valve-seat. A number of similar servomotors may be geared together in series to sum the movements of the individual ball-heads.
