In a revolving table bottle-filling machine of the kind wherein the filling heads carried by the table are supplied with liquid from a stationary supply head containing a stationary disc valve for connecting the filling heads with the supply in succession, foaming of the liquid as it enters the bottle is prevented by evacuating the bottle before filling, a pair of valves being provided in each head, one controlling the air evacuating pipe and the other the liquid feed pipe, and means being provided on, and movable with, the table to operate the valves in turn when a bottle is raised into sealing engagement with the head, the vacuum being broken after filling to enable the bottle to be lowered. In the form shown, the machine comprises a table 2 mounted on a shaft 3 and carrying a number of filling heads 4, each of which is connected by an air evacuating pipe 6 and a liquid feed pipe 17 to concentric sleeves 28 and 33 keyed to hsaft 3. The pipes 6 and 17 extend up through the sleeves and are opened or closed by arcuate ports cut in sealing washers 29 and 34 held in stationary supply heads 7 and 11 respectively. The ports in washer 29 place the pipe 6 into communication with an air evacuating pipe 31, or open it to atmosphere through a hole 12 in the head 7 to break the vacuum in the filled bottle, whilst those in washer 34 connect pipe 6 to a syrup and water supply, all in a timed sequence. In addition to the above control, the filling head has a liquid control valve 8, sealing pipe 17 and an air valve 10 sealing pipe 6, (Fig. 4): The valves are opened at the correct moment by a push rod 25 contacting the valve stems 26 and 32 and actuated by a lever 23 and cam follower 22 bearing on a cam 21 formed on the machine frame.
