Abstract
665,630. Electric indicating systems. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1950. [Feb. 17, 1949] No. 4406/49. Class 40 (i). [Also in Group XXXVI] In capacity measurement, a capacitance pick-up 13 e.g. for measuring turbine blade clearances is connected through coaxial cable 14 to an inductor 11a of a coupling device, which is shunted by a variable capacitance 11b and inductively coupled to an inductor 11c which is connected through coaxial cable 15 to the input of an A.C. resistance bridge 12 operating at 50 Kc/s. The pick-up, the stray and variable capacitances, and the coupled inductors constitute a parallel resonant circuit which is tuned by the variable capacitance to the bridge frequency, for minimum pick-up capacity. A resistive impedance is reflected to the bridge input, and varies with small changes in pick-up capacity, so that the bridge may be calibrated to indicate the latter, or e.g. the blade clearance.
