665,556. Cooling cylinders. STEVENS, A. H. (Eaton Manufacturing Co.). Sept. 8, 1948, No. 23616/48. Class 7(ii) [Also in Group XIII] A radiator fan is driven from the engine through an eddy-current electromagnetic clutch, the current for which is supplied through a variable resistance 58 operated by a thermallyresponsive element 50 placed in substantially the coolest point of the circulation system. As shown, the element 50 is in a pipe 26 connecting the discharge end of the radiator with the cylinder block. The element 50 and a bellows 50<SP>1</SP> are filled with methyl alcohol or other expansible liquid, and an insulator 72 thereon lifts a contact 66 on to a plug 60 which compresses a pile of carbon discs 58 and thus adjusts the resistance, and the initial setting is adjusted by a screw 70.
