Abstract

664,781. Valves controlled by auxiliary valves. ETZELT, H. May 10, 1949 [May 21, 1948], No. 12425/49. Class 135 [Also in Group XXXIV] A plunger type distributing device driven by the fed-in medium for the quantitative distribution of liquids particularly lubricants, comprises two groups of plungers which are positively guided by coupling members supported independently of the plungers and which alternatively block each other's motion. The plungers are housed in parallel bores in a body 1 and those 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, 4, 4<SP>1</SP> comprising one group have recesses 12 by which they are connected by transverse pins I to the arms 9, 10 of a lever 6 pivoted by a shaft 8 on an extension 7 of the body 1. The plungers comprising the other group are similarly connected to a lever 13 disposed at the opposite end of the body. The lever 6, 13, mounted in axial planes at 90 degrees to each other, have further arms 14, 15, the ends of which engage a ball 17 housed in a body bore 16. Covers 20, 21 close the ends of the body 1 but have spaces 18, 19 therebetween connected by a ball byepass bore 23, 24 and the axial bore 16, the lower cover 21 having a mounting spigot 22<SP>1</SP> and the top cover 20 an input connection 22 by which liquid is fed to the spaces 18, 19 at the head of the plungers of each group. Each plunger has a control recess 27 and each plunger bore has an outlet bore 34 leading to an outlet 25 and control ducts 29 ... 32 connecting the working space 33 of each plunger with one of its adjacent plungers. In operation, Fig. 5, liquid under pressure flows from the space 18 through a recess 28 and the control recess 27 of plunger 4, and the duct 31 to the working space 33 of plunger 5 which is thereby forced downwardly. By the rocking action of the lever 13 the plunger 3 is forced upwardly and fluid in its working space 33 is forced through the duct 29 to the outlet bore 34 of plunger 2 which is at a lower pressure than the fed-in media. During this operation the forces on the plungers 2, 4 are balanced and the lever 6 is blocked by the ball 17. As the plunger 5 approaches its lower extreme position the ball 17 falls, releasing the lever 6, the recesses 28, 27 and duct 32 of plunger 5 connect the space 19 with the working space 33 of plunger 2, and the control recess 27 of plunger 3, in its uppermost position, connects the working chamber 33 of plunger 4 with the outlet 34 of plunger 3, and the operation is repeated by the other group of plungers. Modifications to the blocking device comprise replacing the ball 17 by two balls or a pin housed in a support having grooves for the passage of oil, and suitably profiling the arms 14, 15 for direct engagement with one another. The attachment of one, two or more plungers to each lever arm provides respectively a four, eight or more outlet distributor, and in a further modification having a greater number of outlets one or more additional distributor bodies are interposed between the body 1 and a cover so that ends of axially adjacent plungers and/or working levers of each body abut and the whole device works in synchronism. To provide an odd number of outlets, two outlets 25 are interconnected, and to effect the same delivery quantity the plungers are made of half the section. To vary the delivery quantity the plunger diameter and/or the length of the lever arms may be varied.
