Abstract

A coating composition comprises a hydrocarbon wax and an alkylated polystyrene prepared by reacting polystyrene with a propylene polymer of B.P. between 175 DEG and 225 DEG C., e.g. as described in Specification 640,566. The wax, e.g. paraffin, ceresine or ozokerite, is present as 40 to 99.98 per cent of the total weight. Other resins, e.g. hydrogenated glyceryl abietate, glycerol esterified rosin and polymerized turpentine may be added, together with plasticizers, e.g. butyl phthalyl butyl glycollate, and dioctyl phthalate, fillers and pigments to give compositions which may be used to impregnate or coat paper, felt, cloth, or other fabrics.
