[Also in Group XXXIV] Casting composite articles.-In a metallic composition adapted for use as a bearing metal comprising compressed layers of fabric formed of interlaced loops of relatively hard metal thread embedded in a matrix of relatively soft antifriction metal, as described in the parent Specification, at least one of the layers is crimped and all the layers are secured together by wire staples 15, or stitches, Fig. 3, not shown, to prevent displacement of the layers during centrifugal casting. The innermost layer 16 may be of greater mechanical strength than the others, and this layer and the top portions 18 of the staples or stitches are removed after casting.
