Abstract

A liquid wax composition comprises from 3 to 15 per cent by weight of wax, from 65 to about 95 per cent by weight of solvent therefor, from 1 to 25 per cent by weight of water and a small amount of emulsifying agent. The preferred amount of water are from 5 to 20 per cent. Specified volatile emulsifying agents are morpholine, diethyl amine, triethanolamine, sodium lauryl sulphate drocityl ester of sodium sulphosuccinic acid, sorbitan monolaureate, mineral sulphonates and sulphated vegetable oils, the glycerol esters of higher fatty acids and ethlylene oxide condensates of long chain fatty acids and alcohols. Specified waxes are carnauba, candelilla ouricury, paraffin, beeswax, zerkiste, and synthetic waxes. Specified solvents are naphtha, turpentines, Stoddard solvent, benzene, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene. The wax may be melted by heating to 175 DEG F. the solvent added thereto and the mixture left at 160 DEG F. while water at 160 DEG F. and containing the emulsifying agent is added and the whole mixed and allowed to cool.
