Abstract

664,313. Printers' back-cloths. EDDYSTONE MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 8, 1949 [Dec. 23, 1948], No. 23270/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 100 (ii). An endless back grey for textile printing machines comprises a fabric woven from nylon yarns, the fabric having a weight of from 4-16 oz. per sq. yd., the denier of the yarn being from 50 to 309 and the number of plies from 1 to 3 in both warp and filling. In a preferred construction, the weight is 6.4 oz. per sq. yd. with a count of 60x42, denier 210, 2-ply. In another construction, the weight is 7.25 oz. per sq. yd., with a count of 64x46, denier 150, 3-ply. The usual widths of fabric used are 47 inch and 57 inch. Other fibres, such as cotton, may be mixed with the nylon. The fabric is preheated or cured at a temperature upwards of 240‹ F., preferably 275‹ F.-300‹ F., for a time ranging from 8 min. at 300‹ F. to 12 min. at 275‹ F. The fabric may also be preheated for from 2-15 seconds by passing over a roll heated to from 400‹ F. to 450‹ F. The back grey runs round a conventional impression cylinder, an endless blanket running between the cylinder and the back grey and a fabric web to be printed on running between the back grey and the printing rolls. After passage through the printing machine, the back grey passes through a washing device and over drying cans, which are usually heated to about 240‹ F.
