Polyvinyl films are laminated on one or both sides of woven or knitted fabrics of cotton, nylon or other materials, both materials being unrolled from rolls in continuous lengths, by a process in which the textile fabric is heated as delivered from the rolls and before lamination, and is pressed against the film or films, which may also be heated, by unheated rollers. Some or all layers may be coated with vinyl or other adhesives. As shown a fabric web 14 is drawn from a roll 10 and passes via rollers 15-18 around a heated drum 12 and via rollers 19, 20, and 34 to rollers 27, 27a of P.T.F.E. where it meets a web of polyvinyl film 13 drawn from a roll 10a and passed around a heated drum 11. Lamination is effected between unheated pressure rollers 28, 29 the former of which may be in contact with patterned inking rollers 31-33 and may be made to print a pattern on the textile layer by passing the laminate around the roller 28 beneath the printing rolls. In a modification an adhesive coated fabric web may pass in succession around both drums and may be laminated by unheated rollers to one web of film, also adhesive coated, at the approach to the second drum, and to a second film on its opposite face on leaving the drum. In a further modification a fabric web, coated on one side with a polyvinyl adhesive by passage between coating rollers, is laminated to one polyvinyl film at the approach to a heated drum and on leaving the drum is laminated on its coated side to a second film heated during passage around a second drum. One of the unheated laminating rollers may be engraved to produce an embossed pattern, or may be highly polished or matt finished; the other roller may be rubber covered.
