[Also in Group XIII] A jacketed can for heating food by chemical action has an inner compartment 1 for the food, surrounded by, e.g. quick lime 15, and held in place by a ribbed base 16 on which it rests, and by a neck-ring 25 seamed to the outer wall 14 and resting over the bead of the inner wall; the neckring 25 having circular scorings &c. 27 readily punched open to allow water poured into the annular channel provided by the neck-ring 25 to enter the jacket space where it is distributed with the aid of absorbent paper 17. The openings at 27 register with openings in a cover-ring 29 which fits over the neck-ring 25 and may be rotated to close the openings, e.g. when food is taken from the compartment 1. The food compartment may have a lever lid 9, or may have a seamed end to be opened by a tin-opener.
