Abstract

663,976. Modulating apparatus; pulsing carrier frequencies. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. June 30, 1949 [July 9, 1948], No. 17339/49. Class 40 (v). Modulation or interruption of electric oscillations is effected by a conductor exhibiting the phenomena of super-conductivity, by connecting the conductor in the circuit of the oscillation generator or amplifier and employing the signal to vary the magnetic field in which the conductor is immersed, so as to vary the conductor resistance. As shown in Fig. 1, the tuned anode circuit L<SP>3</SP>, C<SP>3</SP> of an oscillation amplifier T<SP>1</SP> is partially shunted by the conductor S, and the signal is applied at terminals 1, 2 to vary the current in a coil L<SP>6</SP> surrounding the conductor. In Fig. 2, pulses from PG are applied to a coil L<SP>6</SP> surrounding the conductor S which is connected in a circuit including a coil L<SP>10</SP>, a condenser C<SP>11</SP> and a magnetron oscillator T2. The condenser is charged through resistors R<SP>1</SP>, R2 from a D.C. source Ua, and discharges through the shaping-coil L<SP>10</SP>, the conductor S, and the magnetron, causing pulses of oscillations to be supplied to the output lead K. A transformer or other matching network can be interposed between the conductor S and the condenser circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 4, the condenser is omitted, and the circuit of the conductor S is coupled to the supply circuit of the magnetron T2 by a transformer Tr. Specification 666,883 is referred to.
