Class 81 (i) A fumigating device adapted to discharge by combustion the vapour of a pest-controlling substance, comprises a container incorporating a solid self-combustible composition in which are embedded one or more enclosures which contain a liquid vaporizable pest-controlling substance absorbed on an inert absorbent, said enclosures isolating the pest-controlling substance from contact with the self-combustible composition and being wholly or partially destructible by the heat of combustion of the composition to release the pest-controlling substance. The self-combustible composition may include an additional pest-controlling substance and a vaporizable ingredient to reduce the risk of bursting the container. The container may contain a baffle separating the combustion chamber from a space into which the gases pass before emerging from the device. The self-combustible material comprises a combustible material, e.g. a carbohydrate such as sucrose and lactose, an oxygen yielding substance such as potassium chlorate, potassium perchlorate and potassium nitrate and a vaporizable substance such as naphthalene, azobenzene and D.D.T. Specified liquid pesticides are tetraethylpyrophosphate, hexaethyltetraphosphate, diethyl p-nitrophenyl monothiophosphate, mixtures of diethyl- and dimethyl-p-nitrophenyl monothiophosphate, p-butoxy p<SP>1</SP>-thiocyanodiethyl ether, Chlordane and nicotine. These may be absorbed on e.g. china clay or diatomaceous earth. The enclosures may be fusible or combustible vessels, e.g. capsules of glass, celluloid, cellulose acetate gelatin or paper.
