Abstract

Synthetic choleritic agents are obtained by condensing in presence of aluminium chloride, 1 : 2 : 3 : 4-tetrahydrofluoranthene with succinic anhydride, to give compounds of the formula Ar-CO(CH2)2COOH, in which Ar is fluoranthene, the attached group taking up either the 5- or 13-position, the sodium salts being especially effective. An example describes the preparation by this method of b -1 : 2 : 3 : 4-fluoranthoyl propionic acid in the 2 isomeric forms. The 2 isomers may be converted into the methyl esters, and separated, or by crystallization from alcohol. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preparation of similar products by condensing the above compound also with glutaric anhydride; fluoranthene and dibenzofurane with either acid anhydride and the reduction of the fluoranthoyl and similar condensation products to fluoranthyl or corresponding reduced compounds with Zn/Hg and hydrochloric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
