Abstract

663,161. Drying webs &c. BRITISH COTTON INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. April 8, 1948 [April 14, 1947], No. 9834/47. Class 34(i) Apparatus for drying material in the form of a sheet c as it passes over rotatable cylinders a, b, comprises covers d, e conforming to the shape of the cylinder and with sealing means at the ends, and suction means f connected to the cover so that a stream of air is induced to enter unobstructed under the cover at the front and rear edges and flow over the sheet. The two cylinders a, b, of which b is smaller, operate in series and their covers are connected to a common exhaust fan f. The minimum velocity of the air stream is 30 feet per second and the covers may be corrugated or obstacles placed therein to cause turbulent air flow.
