Abstract
662,804. Root-crop harvesters. STANDEN & SONS, Ltd., F. A., and STANDEN, P. Jan. 17, 1950 [May 30, 1949], No. 14438/49. Class 6(iii) A root crop harvester comprises a wheeled chassis 50 with a front hitch 50a for attachment to a tractor, a frame 51 within the chassis and means for supporting the front and rear ends of the frame for manually controlled up and down movements of the frame parallel to itself, and root lifting shares 75 and an inclined slattype conveyer 80 carried by the frame. The front end of the frame shown is raised and lowered by links 52, 52a under the control of a hand lever 55, and the rear end is adjusted by a shaft 57 with eccentrics 58, the angular position of the shaft being adjusted by screw and nut mechanism 60, 61, of which the nut 61 is carried by an arm of the shaft, the screw being rotated by a handwheel 62a. The frame carries a gear box 66 and bracket 64 for a main shaft 63. which is driven from the power take-off shaft of the tractor. A drive 71, 73, is taken from the shaft for rotating two discs 67 carrying pivoted rubber sweeps for moving the severed beet tops to one side; the topping may be effected by fitting the tractor with the unit forming the subject of Specification 657,174. Gear-box shaft 81 drives the conveyer 80 which transfers the roots lifted by the shares 75 to a slatted retainer 90 whence they are elevated by an elevator 91 and delivered to a vehicle travelling alongside the implement.
